MW Cleaners is accepting donations of gowns and accessories!

MW Cleaners kicks off its fourth annual MW Cares Prom Dress Drive benefiting Giving Gown Foundation. All Houston area MW Cleaners locations are accepting donations of prom dresses and accessories, through March. The gowns collected will be cleaned free of charge and subsequently delivered to The Giving Gown Foundation, a nonprofit community service organization that collects donations of new and like-new formal gowns and accessories.

Nearly 500 gowns were donated for MW Cleaners’ first prom dress drive in 2015. In the last couple of years, they collected, cleaned and donated over 3,300 dresses plus accessories. MW Cleaners accepts donations at its Houston area stores all year long. The need is especially great this year due to hurricane Harvey’s devastation. The gowns will be donated to Giving Gown Foundation, which will hold its Boutique Days on March 21st-24th.

“You could count special moments in a person’s lifetime on one or two hands; certainly, one of those has to be your high school prom,” MW Cleaners President Mike Nesbit said. Serving others is just a natural extension of what we do each and every day.” Nesbit has been instrumental in community awareness and outreach for more than 30 years.

At the Giving Gown Foundation’s event, young high school ladies who are juniors or seniors eligible to attend prom, who otherwise could not afford a dress, are each paired with volunteer “Fairy Godmother” from the community who help them select a gown, shoes and accessories. MW Cleaners also provides onsite seamstresses to help other volunteer seamstresses with alterations during Boutique Days. The young ladies not only experience an enchanting boutique experiences, but will also attend a self-esteem seminar, a boutique lunch and receive a swag-bag with items to help them get ready.

“One of my favorite things about Boutique Day is the transformation that we see in our princesses,” said Cassie Miller, co-director of Giving Gown Foundation. “Throughout their time with us, they are shown unconditional love and kindness. We uplift them and teach them that they are beautiful and special just as they are.”

Members of the public wishing to donate gowns and accessories may bring them to any of the 38 Houston area MW Cleaners. While all gown donations are appreciated, Miller points out that the greatest needs are for gowns in sizes 16-36. For more information about the Giving Gown Foundation, visit click here.
